About Us

Rocket81 plays old-school rock’n’roll, jive and rockabilly. The band was formed in 2019 by four musicians with a passion for classic rock’n’roll and years of experience playing and touring in Europe.

If you want to get ‘em up and get ‘em dancing to the rockin’ sounds of the fifties and beyond, call Rocket 81.

Bert (aka Al Mosquito) started his musical career as an 11 year old playing the accordeon. He switched to guitar at the age of 15. In Holland he was bass player with Chief Whip and the Golden Fictions, a retro rock’n’roll group, bass player with The Paramounts, a cover group, and lead guitarist with swing band Torello’s Jive Bugs. He performed in several European countries.

Bert left Amsterdam for the Tarn in 2010.

Andy arrived in France in 2016 after a long career as a professional musician in the UK. He was guitarist with The Rhythm Doctors, a jump-jive show band, with rockabilly band Lucky Guy and the Chancers, and with gypsy jazz band John Davison Trio.

Andy performed in several European countries as well as Canada.

Laurent studied saxophone at the Toulouse conservatory and the Jazz Music-hall school. He was a member of the latino-jazz group SummerSet, member of the variety group CALICOBA and a member of the pop-rock-lounge band Sax à pile. He traded the saxophone for the double bass in 2018.

Laurent joined the band in spring 2019. He’s also a member of the rockabilly band The Fire Corner.

Anthony is a musician since his childhood. As a 12 year old he started on the drums. Throughout his career, he has been interested in eclectic styles (pop, jazz, reggae, traditional, metal, world, hip-hop, …). Soaking up this music has helped him to broaden his vocabulary and forge his own style. Always in search of harmony and musicality, his playing is solid, steady, nuanced and colourful.

In summer 2019, after a career in Marseille, Anthony moved back to the Tarn and completed the band as a drummer.
